Ms Gemma Garewal
Gemma Garewal completed a Bachelor of Food Science and Nutrition at Deakin University in 2001 and then went on to graduate in 2005 with a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) at Charles Sturt University.
Gemma has been previously employed as a dietitian at The Canberra Hospital, The Sutherland Hospital and Epworth Hospital where she attained experience in a range of clinical specialities. Her most recent appointment was at Austin Health where she worked for twelve years. There she gained experience in areas including oncology, paediatrics, neurology and ketogenic diet, mood and eating disorders and intensive care.
Gemma spent ten years at Austin Health specialising in gastro-surgical dietetics. She has completed internationally acclaimed research which she presented both nationally and internationally. She received various awards and devised clinical guidelines and patient education material relevant to this specialty area.
Returning from maternity leave, Gemma is excited to commence this new chapter in her career. Her career objective is to maintain the highest professional standards of dietetic practice by providing evidenced based and tailored information and by maintaining a commitment to ongoing professional development. Gemma has recently completed the Monash University low FODMAP Diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome – Dietitian course. She is a member of Dietetics Australia and gastro-surgical interest groups.
